Lavendula burnati briquet
Spain
Organic
Lavendin is a cross between True Lavender (lavendula angustifolia) and spike Lavender (Lavendula latifolia). This hybrid occurs naturally through cross pollination but is sterile and can only be reproduced through cuttings.
Lavendin is hardier than Lavender. It grows at a lower altitude which makes it easier to harvest. The cloned plants all flower at the same time and produce a uniform aroma. They produce 5 or 6 times the yield of essential oil that Lavender can produce. For these reasons, the production of Lavendin was developped commercially on a large scale and was by 1930 a common practice.
The aroma is soft and floral with a camphoraceous (pungent) note which is not present in True Lavender.
Therapeutically:
- Anxiety: Lavendin is almost twice as effective as true lavender in alleviating anxiety. It has a calming effect on the cerebro-spinal activity so can be used for depression, stress, insomnia, hysteria, shock.
- Headaches: The analgesic properties make it useful for headaches, neuralgia, vertigo, and sciatica.
- Heart: Small quantities are calming for the heart and blood pressure, whereas larger quantities have the opposite effect.
- Cold & Asthma: Being an immune stimulant, bactericidal and antispasmodic, it can be used for throat infections, asthma, coughs, colds and flu, bronchitis, sinusitis and pneumonia. Lavendin
